Meet the Staff: Campaign Manager Joel Tucker

(Pictured above: Campaign Manager Joel Tucker (right) with volunteer Ashley Taylor).

My name is Joel Tucker and I’m an East Point resident since 2003. Since moving to East Point I’ve continually served the city on a Commission or Board. I’ve served on the East Point Charter Commission, Mayor’s Diversity Task Force, East Point Ethics Board and the Mayor’s Ethics Task Force. Now I have the honor of being campaign manager for Eric Morrow, a candidate that posses all the qualities of a true leader.

I’ve known Eric for many years. I can tell you that Eric is the caliber of friend that everyone hopes for just once in their lifetime. Eric is intelligent, caring, honest, goal oriented and hard working. Eric is that friend that you can call anytime and always know he is there for you. Eric knows he has been fortunate in life with many opportunities and is at a point in life that he can give back to the community that he cares so much about. Eric knows that East Point has many challenges ahead to reach its full potential and I know Eric has all the qualities needed to advance East Point. Eric truly is a “leader for our future”. East Point needs fresh new leadership, ideas and leadership. I hope you will get to know Eric during this campaign season and go to the polls in November and elect Eric Morrow as councilman for Ward B at-large.

My Campaign Platform

East Point faces many challenges and I believe that with hard work and with respect to all, we can come together as a community and make great things happen for us all. I hope you will consider voting for me in November.

MY PLATFORM:

•I will work with the mayor, council and city employees to get East Point's financial house in order.
•City services rates are ever increasing while services to residents are decreasing. We can do better and I will work to correct these deficiencies.
•I will work to attract smart growth and businesses that will help ease the tax burdens on individual residents. We have a treasure of industrial and commercial space that goes unused. We must market our city better and I will work hard to make this happen.
•I will work with, not against existing small businesses to help them thrive and grow.
•I will work towards accountability of all city employees to ensure that the citizens are receiving acceptable levels of professionalism and work product and ensure that our employees receive respect for their contributions to our city and work to ensure high morale.
•With East Point’s close proximity to the world’s busiest airport and the city of Atlanta, we should be in the best position to attract residents and business. Unfortunately, we are falling behind our sister cities of College Park and Hapeville. We must change the demeanor and tone on council and work together for the simple goal of promoting East Point.
•I will work towards the goal of the “beautification” of East Point. East Point must have gateways into the city if we are ever going to expect to continue to lure new residents and business. For this to happen, the Mayor and council must work together putting wards aside and act in conjunction to plant the seed that will grow across the entire city.

4th of July Canvassing a Success

(Pictured to the left: My 4th of July Team)

We had a wonderful 4th of July! I want to thank my team John, Lavell, Randy, Bobby, Henry, Bobby W., Mari, Robert and Joel for hitting the streets of the Jefferson Park, Colonial Hills, Egan Park and East Washington neighborhoods with me. A special thanks to Joel and Robert for coming through with the flyers. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with many of my East Point neighbors about their love of our city. I was especially impressed by Ms. Trylor who welcomed me into her home, told me about her life in East Point and spoke one-on-one with me about my candidacy. I appreciate her candor and look forward to visiting her neighborhood association where she serves as secretary.

After visiting the neighborhoods, the volunteer team met back at my home and enjoyed a cook-out of ribs, chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers. Enjoying fun times with my East Point friends is what I love most about this city. I look forward to meeting more residents and making more friends in the coming weeks and months as I visit Wards A, C and D. If you see me on your street in the near future please say "hi". I want to hear what is on your mind and how we can work together to make our city the absolute best it can be.

15 Days Until Our Campaign Fundraiser Kick-Off!

Hi Friends!

Joel Tucker, my campaign manager and friend, announced yesterday our campaign kick-off and fundraiser set for July 18, 2009 from 6pm - 10pm. If you did not get your invitation, e-mail me at electericmorrow@yahoo.com and I will make sure you are invited. We are a grassroots campaign and your generous donation will help with flyers, posters, signs, stamps and all the essentials of a successful campaign. We know that times are tight, so if you cannot give money but want to contribute, please volunteer some time as I reach out to the East Point community going door-to-door to introduce myself and gain knowledge of citizen concerns. Check my blog for updates on when and where I will be in the community. The first outing will be tomorrow, July 4th at 10:30 in Jefferson Park.

Volunteer Opportunity

We are in need of Volunteers to help with our Campaign. There will be plenty of opportunities to volunteer between now and November.

The first outing will be tomorrow, July 4th at 10:30 in Jefferson Park. I will be going door-to-door to introduce myself to members of the community. Come out and join us! If you see me on the streets, please say hi. Your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated!
